“Teniamoci per Mano Onlus” clown therapy association organizes the second edition of the “Smile Clown Festival”, artistic event. A cultural contest dedicated to the world of clowns.

The contest is created with the aim of enhancing and rewarding the most beautiful artistic performances.

An important showcase for talents with the possibility of performing and making themselves known to the huge public of the Festival, the professionals of the sector that make up the jury and the press.

The competition will take place in three phases: Online Pre-selection, Qualifications and Live Final.

Pre-selection: by evaluating the submitted material;

Live qualifications: the selections will take place in the evenings of 15 and 16 May 2020 in front of the public, to a quality jury composed of professional clowns (designated by “Teniamoci per mano Onlus”), by experts in the sector, organizers of events and press. At the end of each evening, 4 artists  will be selected for each of the two evenings that will access the final.

Final: performance of the eight finalist will compete on May 17th 2020 on the same stage.

The three winners of the second edition of the SCF will receive a cash prize. A special Critical Award is also planned.


Art. 1 – PURPOSE

The main objective of the establishment of the “Smile Clown Festival” is to enhance the art of the clown, highlighting the number, the emotional aspect and the ability to get in touch with the public, in order to highlight the importance of empathy through the game”.

It does not have commercial purposes, but only to promote clowning through the involvement of artists involved in the dissemination of both the artistic message and the competition.


The number to be presented must meet the following characteristics:

The numbers presented may be edited or not edited. They may also have been the subject of theatrical contracts as long as the rights, for the purposes of participating in the Contest and in exercising them, which result from the winning of the Prizes, are in the full availability of the Artists and they guarantee it. If there are contracts in relation to the show presented in the Contest, the Artists will have to obtain all the necessary authorizations from their own assignees (Producers/Co-Authors) in order to participate in the Contest, and the 16 Qualifiers will have to deliver suitable documentation to the Organizer.

It can also be shows not filed with Siae or other collective copyright management company.

The organization reserves the right, at its own discretion, to admit shows of longer duration, with a maximum tolerance of 5 minutes beyond the allowed time.

The exhibition will be interrupted if it continues beyond the announced and agreed duration.

In the event that all the conditions described in this article are not fulfilled, the numbers will not be admitted to the Competition and will be excluded, even if the lack of the foreseen conditions were to be verified subsequently.


The Competition is open to all adult clown actors and of any nationality, that is singles or duo or company (hereinafter referred to as “the Artists”), who are authors and directors of their own shows.

The association’s voluntary clowns or natural persons with criminal records cannot participate in the competition.

Following the online selections, at least 16 artists will be admitted to live qualifications.

The application for participation in online selections is available on the website www.smileclownfestival.it must be completed in its entirety and sent by 31 January 2020.

Participation in the qualifications has a contribution of 20.00 euros as an aid to clown terapy


From 23 September 2019 to 31 January 2020 it will be possible to register for the II ed. of the “Smile Clown Festival”. Among all the participants admitted to the competition, 16 Artists will be selected for the Qualifications, based on the modalities indicated below.

The “Teniamoci per Mano Onlus” clown therapy association (hereinafter referred to as “the Organizer”), following the vision by its own internal artistic commission, will evaluate all the artists enrolled in the Contest and at its sole discretion, will select the 16 qualified who will have to perform between the evenings of 15 and 16 May 2020. The order of exhibition of 8 artists on the evening of May 15th and of an additional 8 artists on the evening of May 16th will be at complete discretion of the art direction.

The artistic commission will communicate the day of the exhibition.

The technical Jury, composed of specialized personalities in the sector chosen at the discretion of the Organizer, will express an evaluation of the Artists based on the material received. The 16 artists who in this way will obtain the maximum of preferences, will access the qualifications. The evaluation will be performed on technique, originality, emotionality and quality of performance.


The list of the 16 artists selected for the qualifications will be announced on February 3, 2020 on the website: www.smileclownfestival.it on the fb page of the festival: www.facebook.com/smileclownfestival and through an e-mail sent by the organizer to the artist.

To be admitted to the selections of the “Smile Clown Festival” it is necessary to send a copy of the payment of the amount of 20.00 euros. The methods of this payment will be communicated to the admitted artists.

The selected competitors, in sending the technical sheet, must keep in mind that “the Organizer” will take care of making available only the props he is able to provide to the artist and will not take on particularly elaborate requests.

The organization accepts no responsibility for any damage to property or personal stuff before, during and after the show.

If a competitor cannot, for any reason, show up on the date for which he will be summoned, he won’t participate at all.

Board and lodging are the artist’s responsibility.


The qualification will will consist of a live performance of own personal number.

During the qualifications, the 16 artists, splitted into two days, will be evaluated by a technical jury of international artists. 4 artists will be identified on the evening of May 15 and a further 4 artists on the evening of May 16th. The eight artists who will pass the two days of qualifications will participate at the final.

The exhibition order of the 16 artists and the division over the two days will be at the discretion of the artistic direction.

In the afternoon of the day of the show the competitors will be able to perform a short test on the stage from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm. The Organizer will provide the necessary backline for the performance of the qualifications. This technical equipment will be standard.

Art. 8 – THE FINAL

The final will consist of a live performance of own personal number.

During the final, the 8 artists will be evaluated by a technical jury of international artists and by a jury of journalists who will assign the prize of the criticism to the best performance.

If among the 8 finalists voted there is a case of a draw, a performance of maximum 8 minutes of improvisation will be required, which will award the advantage point for the winning of the second edition of the Festival.

The exhibition order of the 8 finalist artists will be at the discretion of the artistic direction. In the afternoon of the final the competitors will be able to perform a short test from 13.30 to 15.30. The Organizer will provide the necessary backline for the final. This technical equipment will be standard.


Voting is delegated to the judgment of the technical jury and the jury of the critics: there will be 2 votes, one by the technical jury, the other by the jury of the critics.

The technical jury will cast its vote taking into account criteria such as: expressiveness, creativity, technique and stage presence. For each competitor, each juror will have to cast a vote from 1 to 5.

The jury of the critics will express their vote taking into account criteria such as: live impact, originality and interpretation of the theme.

The evaluation expressed in the various stages of the Competition by the artistic commission of Teniamoci per Mano Onlus by the technical and critical jury will be final and cannot be appealed.

Art. 10 – AWARDS

The selected finalists will perform on the final evening and the technical jury will decide the most deserving winner of the second edition of the “Smile Clown Festival”. The prize consists of a cash contribution distributed as follows:

The cash contribution will be paid by bank transfer net of the withholding tax and will be paid within 30 days of the end of the Festival and the Artist will have nothing further to claim from the Organizer in relation to the Competition.


The artist, coordinating with the artistic direction of the times and program, will be able to do a workshop for the association’s volunteer clown doctors, in the days, times and places that will be established further.

For every artist interested in this collaboration there is a reimbursement of expenses.

Each artist also has the opportunity to perform as a “hat” in the days of the 4th national meeting of the association, from 13 to 17 May 2020.


The Festival will take place on 15th, 16th and 17th May 2020 in Naples in Piazza Dante during the 4th National Clown Therapy Meeting of the Association “Teniamoci per mano Onlus”.


There is no kind of limitation inherent in the collective copyright management company (SIAE, Soundreef, Itsright, Etc.). Participants can already be bound by a theatrical or circus contract.


The participant assumes full responsibility for the originality of the show presented and fully relieves the Organizer from any direct or indirect damage caused to third parties or to the Organizer and/or his successors due to false declarations concerning the authorship of the work or the full availability of the rights necessary to participate in the Competition as well as the relative costs.

In the artist’s description no advertising message should be included. The links published in the artist’s data sheet must be addresses linked exclusively to the artistic activity, specifically they must not convey commercial contents such as the promotion of products and activities of their own or of third parties or harmful to the rights of third parties, under penalty of exclusion from the Competition compensation for all damage caused.


The Organizer assumes no responsibility for access problems, impediments, malfunctions or difficulties concerning the technical instruments, the computer, the cables, the electronics, the software and the hardware, the transmission and the connection, the telephone line that may prevent a participant or user from accessing the Website and therefore participating in the competition.

The Promoter does not assume any responsibility in case of failure to deliver the winning notice or the prizes due to the indication of addresses (electronic or residence) or personal data incorrect and / or untruthful by the winners and / or electronic errors or postal.

The participants assume any responsibility for false declarations issued to the Organizer, including the alleged originality of the pieces presented and the full availability of the rights necessary for participation in the competition, expressly exempting the Organizer in relation to any economic request addressed by third parties and related expenses.

Art. 16 – PRIVACY

The collection and use of personal data will be managed in compliance with the provisions of Legislative Decree 196/03, laying down provisions for the protection of privacy.


Members of the “Smile Clown Festival”:

authorize, free of charge, the Organizer to make the video of the shows available on the website, after the event;

authorize, free of charge, the Organizer to record, resume, reproduce in any form and by any means, communicate to the public and make available to the public, including by inserting them in their databases, to broadcast on television, audiovisual, IT, radio, the event and its artistic performances within the event;

authorize, free of charge, the Organizer and its assignees to use their name, pseudonym and image for the purpose of promoting and carrying out the Competition and the activities carried out by the Organizer;

authorize them to enter their data in the Organizer’s lists, for the sending of their own informative material: at any time the competitors may have access to their data, request the updating, cancellation, rectification or integration.

Participation in this competition is subject to the complete acceptance of the competition rules and the privacy policy.

By registering for the Competition, the Artist declares to have read and fully accept all the articles included in these Regulations as well as in the Privacy Policy as well as to be in full ownership of all rights necessary for participation.


The Organizer reserves the right to intervene on this regulation, making additions or modifications that may be necessary for organizational and functional reasons for the success of the competition. Any changes will be promptly communicated on the website www.smileclownfestival.it in the “Regulations” section and will be effective the day after publication.


The Organizer, as a promoter, reserves the right to cancel the festival if a registration quorum is not reached or the performance level is not fully adequate. In the event of cancellation of the event, the Organizer will not have to pay any charge or reimbursement of expenses to members of any nature (booking flights, hotel reservations, cancellations of personal or artistic commitments, etc.).

Art. 20 – DISPUTES

In the event of disputes relating to the validity, execution or interpretation of this Regulation and/or otherwise related to the latter, the Court of Naples will be exclusively competent.

The initiative in question does not fall into the category of “prize competitions” or “prize operations” under the D.P.R. 10/26/01 n. 430 (Rules for competitions and prize operations), art.6 (Exclusions): “Competitions organized for the production of literary, artistic and scientific works in which the awarding of the prize to the author are not considered prize contests and prize operations of the selected work has the nature of work performance compensation or represents the recognition of personal merit or an encouragement in the interest of the community ”.
